Calibers and Rifles

Use enough GUN! For everything other than the Big 5 we recommend a caliber from .270 upwards, your .30 rifles will down any small to medium game animals on this continent, if you are going after plains game like Gemsbuck, bring something that shoots flat and packs enough punch at 250 yards. Blue Wildebees can take a lot of lead and punishment so the 300 Magnums and their kin is a good choice.Eland bulls are the African heavy weights and large calibers like the 9.3X62 or 375 H&H even the odds a bit.
Whatever you bring, make sure you can shoot it, I would rather you put a small hole in the right place than a big one in the wrong place. For all dangerous game you will need a 375 H&H minimum as dictated by the law here. No semi or fully automatic rifles will be allowed into the country.

Terrain

Depending on the species you hunt, terrain can change from nice open and flat savannah to extremely mountainous areas, or both in the same day. Take some time to appreciate it while you are here. Winter mornings are cool and so are the evenings, from 10am onward the temperatures are pleasant. Summer days are warm and sometimes very humid depending on which area we hunt. You may find yourself hunting the coastal forest one day and as high as 2500 feet the next day.
Depending on the antelope species you may even find yourself hunting between Elephant, Buffalo and Cheetah moving as close as 20 feet from these animals does wonders for your heart!!!!
Please consider the species you want to hunt before you make a booking, it will make your hunt much more rewarding. I fail to see why you book a trophy Kudu Bull in March when we know the really big Bulls only start showing up in May, June and July depending on the area you hunt. Talk to us and we will be able to assist you better depending on the trophies you want.
